Jenny Gaines Rattray  Owner operator

My name is Jenny Gaines Rattray and I am the owner and operator of Sunny Days Children’s Center.  I began the centers after caring for children in my home for nearly 8 years.

I wanted a center that offered high quality care and also offered extended care

for those families whose work schedules are not the norm.

In my spare time, my husband and I also operate a non- profit organization in Grand Bahama, Bahamas, Hope Garden Ministries, and we love to travel.  I also love spending quality time with our 5 children and their families, especially our 2

My past 20 years work experience with children of all ages has given me valuable knowledge and insight into child development and education for young children.  I have also learned through several courses and seminars including the NB Emergent Curriculum training. I’ve been fortunate to travel to many places to see first hand, Early Learning in other countries and have brought those unique experiences back to Sunny Days and my team of wonderful staff.  My educational background is in business and my passion for a successful , honest and hardworking business is evident in our love for our families and are continuous growth and relationships in our community.

Alyssa Director

I am the Director of Sunny Days Children’s Center. You will find me behind the scenes completing admin work, registering new families, updating our social media pages, helping our educators with their classrooms, providing programming time, booking and planning guest speakers, field trips, daycare events and much more!

Sunny Days has become a second home and I am so fortunate to be able to be a leader to our staff, children and families here. I love coming here every day, communicating with everyone and being efficient in the office to ensure things are running as smoothly as possible.

I graduated from NBCC Fredericton with an Early Childhood Education certificate in June 2014 and I have been apart of the Sunny Days team since September 2014.  I spent my first year in the two-year-old class and then moved up to the preschool four-year-old class for the last 4 years which I loved immensely. In June 2020 I took on a role as Director of Program and Development where I did admin work in the morning and then was an educator in School Crew in the afternoons. As of October 2020, I became the full-time director at Sunny Days, I am very excited to be in this new role.

Early Childhood Education has always been a passion of mine and I strive to be a positive role model in every child’s life that I am a part of. I have worked with children since I was a teenager and have enjoyed every minute of it. I love taking part in professional development and learning opportunities when they are available so I can enrich my learning to implement new things in the centre and to be able to provide knowledge and helpful hints to our educators at our center.

I look forward to building relationships and meeting all the families that become a part of Sunny Days Children Center and be able to provide them with a safe, fun and nurturing environment for their children!

Sally Early Childhood Educator

My name is Sally and I teach the fours pre-k class at Sunny Days.   I have been caring and teaching three and four year olds for 25 years. Prior to joining the Sunny Days team  in 2016, I operated New Friends Preschool, better known as “Mrs.Hovey”.

I began my preschool when my youngest daughter was three, so I have never been away from “that three year old voice”.  I absolutely love working with children, watching them grow, laugh, learn and have fun evey day. It is what I do best!

My hobbies include baking, gardening, doing anything outdoors and relaxing at my cottage on Indian Lake.

Mallory Early Childhood Educator

My name is Mallory. I started at Sunny Days as a Co-Op student back in 2016.  That summer I
was a volunteer, and then I received a full-time job that fall. Over the years that I’ve worked at Sunny
Days, I have been lucky enough to get to experience each age group we offer and have enjoyed getting
to know all the amazing children we have!

Children have been a passion of mine for many years. I started babysitting when I was 12, as well as,
enjoying the company of many young kids that I got to meet at the IWK, as I spent many long years
there. I love working with young children as I want to be able to make a positive impact on their lives.
Making connections with the kids and their families are so important, as we get to help them grow and
experience new things.

Currently, I am an educator in the senior nursery and am loving where I’m at! In my free time, I love to spend time with family and friends, enjoy movies or a good book, and lots of retail therapy! I look forward to making connections and bonds with you, your child, and your family!

Rachel Early Childhood Educator

Welcome! My name is Rachel – I was born and raised here in Fredericton, NB- Fredericton has always and will always be my home. I live with my husband, Brandon, My dog, Leia and our four bunnies (My husband’s idea). I plan to grow a family here in Fredericton as Well.

I graduated from Oromocto High School in 2012 and then went on to study Sociology and Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. I graduated UNB in May of 2017 with a Major in Sociology and a Minor in Psychology.

While in University, I was hired on as an afterschool educator at Sunny Days, after volunteering and suppling for a few years. I was thrilled about this opportunity as I love working with children. Sunny Days quickly became my second home. I went on to become the Director in the summer of 2017. In 2020, I decided to solely focus on my role as an educator, I stepped down as director and continued my teaching with the after-schoolers.

In the past 5 years at Sunny Days, I have been able to grow and learn in the field of early childhood education. I have acquired many certifications to offer to this career; In 2017, I completed the 30-hour Online Curriculum Training Course and the 60-hour Online Curriculum Training Course. I have attended and participated in many workshops, webinars, and conferences to expand my knowledge of teaching children. In 2017, I completed the “Mother Nature as the Third Teacher Workshop”; In early 2019, I completed the Exploring Literacies Workshop. I attended the Shining Light Conference in the fall of 2019. In 2020, I completed the “Afterschool Matters” workshop where we went in-depth into outdoor play for after school aged children. This focused on risky play and the importance of “loose end” parts in the classroom (bottle caps, various plumbing materials, bread bag tabs, paper rolls, etc.) I also completed webinars on the “Powerful Interactions In Early Childhood Programs: How Teachers Connect with Children to Extend Their Learning” and how to “ Create a Culture of Acceptance and Kindness in a Challenging World: It all Starts in Your Early Childhood Program” I went through a 5-session zoom webinar with Lisa Murphy, she is the owner and founder of Ooey Gooey Inc. These sessions had me reflecting on my teaching method and classroom environment. I look forward to developing my knowledge on how to care for, educated and motivate children as they move forward in their lives. My main focus is that they gain respect for themselves, others, and their materials.

I believe that continuous self-improvement is so important. It keeps me current, enthusiastic and inspired. Gaining new knowledge and growing in my field of study, I believe allows me to inspire others, and remain motivated.

Megan Early Childhood Educator

My name is Megan I am a two year old educator at Sunny Days. I have been here for a little over three years but have been working in childcare since 2014. Ever since I was a little girl people always told me I would work with children one day and as I got older I knew how much they were right. I graduated high school in 2013 and knew exactly what I wanted to do. I applied to NBCC and got accepted into the ECE program. I graduated from there in 2014 and began working right away at a couple different daycares until I finally landed here! I hope to gain a lot of experience and knowledge during my time here at sunny days as one of my main goals as an educator is to teach the children in new, different and exciting ways! I always continue to educate myself by attending conferences, zoom meetings or workshops on the weekends and evenings to gain more ideas for future classes. I also hope I am able to open up my own center one day!
